Prep Time: 5 minutes. Servings: 8. Calories: kcal. Author: Karli Bitner. Instructions Measure out the Chex cereal into a large bowl. Set aside. Measure out the powdered sugar into a large gallon sized zip top bag.

In a medium microwave safe bowl, add the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Microwave for a total of 1 minute, stirring at the 30 second mark. Stir until smooth. Pour the chocolate mixture into the bowl with the cereal. Stir until the cereal is evenly coated. The cereal pieces should be completely coated in chocolate, but it's ok for a few to clump together.

Pour the powdered sugar over the mixture. Use as much or as little as you like, but I think this is best when no chocolate shows through. Gently stir to combine. Again, don't over mix. My husband also loves it! Such a cute couple! I feel like they are family!!! The perfect holiday treat! I prefer using Crispix cereal because of the fun shape. How different will it taste is I use the corn or wheat chex instead? Any feedback? Hi Renea! Melting the chocolate, peanut butter and butter was a sinch. The problem was finding something large enough to get it covered in powdered sugar.

I have an enormous tan bowl, with the pink and blue stripe. The kind your grandmother or great grandmother would have had to make bread in. I finally got it coated in powdered sugar. But my kitchen is a mess. I have some on a cookie sheet in my deep freezer right now. Make sure you have a gigantic container for the powdered sugar step. The rest is a breeze. Thanks so much, Linda! Hi Kim! Hmmm sounds like your chocolate mixture hardened?

Then try tossing it with more powdered sugar?? Did you add the whole 2 pound bag of powdered sugar? Hi thanks for checking back!

Definitely could be because you used the stove, who knows! I always recommend following the directions microwave included for the best results. If I use peppermint chips should I still use peanut butter. Hi Mary! You could try replacing the peanut butter with processed cashew butter not an all natural variety — I think Jiff makes a creamy cashew butter!

I was missing out as a child. Literally just made this recipe and it is delicious. Awesome little morsels! Very good and easy. Made this recipe for the first time. I love it! Merry Christmas! There IS actually a substitute for the powdered sugar!

Loved it. Soooo good!! Good work! My problem…he wants it for Christmas. I know in previous years I have made him double batches that has lasted him about 3 weeks from date made with no complaints. But I would think you could make it, and freeze it. Put the puppy chow in the package, straight from the freezer. Put around it anything that could insulate it and keep it cold. Hopefully they will take long enough to warm up that it gets to him fresh and ready to eat.

I hope this helps. And thank you to your grandson for his service! I made this particular recipe the very first time I made puppy chow. And about half a bag of powdered sugar.

Hi Sabrina — I had a quick question: do I need to let the chocolatey treats cool any before tossing them in the powdered sugar?? I would suggest using the more expensive higher quality chis. In mine, after shaking the Puppy Chow up in the powdered sugar you dump it out onto parchment paper in a thin layer to let it dry. I make it once a month in my home…. Friend's Email Address.
