Visitors can explore the park by snorkelling and canoeing or by camping on subtropical islands. Scuba diving through Florida Reef is an excellent way to view this incredible underwater ecosystem. Miami is known as the Capital of Latin America for a reason.

The reason? Well, variety. One cannot simply deny how beautiful its art deco scene is. Majority of these art deco buildings hold so much cultural and historical value that they are also protected heritage sites — definitely history buffs should keep in mind and add to their itineraries whenever they would plan a Miami vacation.

Of course, a great tourist area should have great food and even better entertainment. Some experts believe the basins depict the images of sea turtles, sharks, shrimp and other marine animals. Founded near the mouth of The Miami River in what could be remnants of an ancient culture, the circle is believed to be a relic of a bygone era. Some experts believe it is the product of the Tequesta tribe. Others think it might date back even further. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the stunningly beautiful grounds, explore the houses and just enjoy themselves.

From canoe tours to butterfly walks and guided nature hikes, the Deering Estate has diverse activities for the whole family to enjoy. The Estate offers daily tours of the historic houses — the Stone House and Richmond Cottage, as well as tours of the lush natural areas where fossil bones have been found dating as far back at 50,, years.

Today's visitors can journey through native habitats to visit the Tequesta midden, the Cutler Burial Mound, and walk an ancient Tequesta trail. The Deering Estate's naturalists and guides educate us about humans interacting with the surrounding native habitats through time and showcase artifacts ranging from the end of the ice age to those used by Tequesta Indians who thrived in the region for hundreds of years before the Spanish colonial era.

Jungle Island is one of the most popular attractions in the city of Miami! Parrot Jungle Gardens, as it was originally called, was opened by Austrian immigrant Franz Scherr in The Depression cut short his construction career and he wound up in Pinecrest, Florida, where he opened a feed store and kept several live parrots on display.

The birds became a local attraction and Scherr realized that tourists would pay to see them. It was built from to by Edward Leedskalnin, who was originally from Latvia and stood at just over five feet tall and weighed only pounds. Despite his small size, he worked alone to build his castle during a time before modern construction equipment. His creations were carved out of more than 1, tons of coral rock, and he worked at night, so no one saw how he built it—people began to say he had supernatural powers.

Today, you can explore Coral Castle with the help of an audio guide, available in English, Spanish, German or French, or on a tour with a knowledgeable in-person guide. You will see many features of the museum, such as a nine-ton gate that moves with just a touch of the finger, a Polaris telescope and functioning rocking chairs, all of which are made entirely of stone.

He would have asked you for ten cents admission and introduced you to his fantasy world. Today, though, you will have to settle for remembering his legacy as you take in this miraculous work of art!

Striving to provide experiences through art and to collect and exhibit and interpret art across all cultures, this museum serves to advance FIU's stature as a top of the line research university. The museum started as a small space in FIU's Prima casa building in As the collections and programming grew they needed more space. The museum opened in and has been a favorite Miami attraction for lovers of art ever since.
